Raglan Musical Rendezvous 17th – 20th May 2013

The North Shore Organ and Keyboard Club in conjunction with the Tauranga Organ and Keyboard Society organized A Weekend Rendezvous At Raglan. Other keyboard clubs in the Upper North Island were invited to share the Rendezvous. The weather was atrocious but the Rendezvous was a roaring success with about 46 attendees booked into the Raglan Sunset Motel for the weekend. The official programme began on Saturday morning at 10 am and participants played 15 minute slots as they wished and on whatever instrument took their fancy! On Saturday late afternoon we packed-up our gear and headed over to the Raglan Club (formerly the Raglan RSA) and gave a Happy Hour Concert, for our party and the local residents, between 4 pm and 6 pm. We then has a scrumptious dinner at the Raglan Club before giving a 2 hour Concert for all and sundry to enjoy between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm. Lots of good music and lots of dancing on the large dance floor.

Sunday morning saw us returned to the Conference Centre of the Raglan Sunset Motel for more informal playing before a fantastic Concert in the same venue in the afternoon. After a takeaways, fish and chips dinner, we then got down to some more serious music and jam sessions with lots of dancing and lots of fun had by one and all.

All in all, a fabulous Musical Rendezvous to be remembered for a long, long time.

A big thank you to Peter Brophy, Ron and June Stanwell as the major organizers for the event for a great job done. Also, a big thank you to all the artists that gave of their professional services gratis and for the love of music, as well as all the other helpers that made the event go off so smoothly.

The Raglan Sunset Motel and indeed Raglan can be commended to readers of this Web Page as a great place to visit and explore.

Carole Littlejohn, Janice, Kevin Johnston playing as a trio. Our Special Guest Artist, Peter Parkinson, from Music Planet Botany Branch gave us a great 45 minute Concert using a Korg Pa588 arranger/piano. Some stunning arrangements, sounds and songs - wonderful.

Our Special Guest Artist also gave the Club's Korg SP-250 Piano an airing with a great demonstration of the variety of sounds that this digital piano articulates.

The music continued after a takeaways dinner of delicious fish and chips with lots of music, jam sessions and dancing. All the photographers were busy drinking, eating and playing and dancing so there are no photos of the final Sunday evening session!

Club Night 7th May 2013

An evening to remember, with four great performances in the first half by Club Members: Peter Littlejohn (arrival music on Clavinova); John Beales (on Korg Pa500 keyboard); Desiree Barrows (on Korg Pa500 keyboard); Kuniko Nakatani (on Clavinova); and Colleen Kerr (on Clavinova).
The second half of the programme was devoted to our special guest artists from MusicWorks, Darren Smith (General Manager Retail Division) and Murray Hancox (Piano and Keyboard Department Manager at Atwaters MusicWorks in Auckland City). They were joined by Miles Tremlett on Alto Sax. Miles is a long-time friend of Darren's and indeed plays in Darren's band. They have a jazz concert gig at the Windsor Castle (Parnell) on Saturday afternoon 22nd June 2013. Our guest artist from last month, Ben Fernandez, will also be playing at the same concert with his band. Should be an afternoon well worth getting along to! A big thank you to the Committee and helpers for making the evening run so smoothly.
