Playing for St Anne’s Club For The Blind

As part of The North Shore Organ and Keyboard Club's ethos is playing music for the Community. On Tuesday, 26th February Peter Littlejohn and Gordon Sutherland from our Club entertained St Anne's Club for the Blind at their premises in Gibbons Road, Takapuna. In fact, our Club has been entertaining St Anne's Club for the Blind every Tuesday for the last 24 years! Most weeks, long time member and past President, George Watt goes along and plays music on the piano for them but once a month other members of our Club do a turn to ease the workload of George and offer variety to the St Anne's Club members.

Coffee Day at the Johnston’s in Algies Bay

One of the best! Coffee Day was held at Jan and Kevin's lovely seaside home at Algies Bay. The weather was perfect - hot and barmy and the music was cool. We held the event in Kevin's ‘ManCave’ garage complex with overflow into the spacious courtyard where there was a gazebo to obtain shade and cooling breeze. The food was fantastic too - lots of freshly smoked snapper and Peter Littlejohn's famous pavlova amongst other vitals. In the evening we had a BBQ so by the end of the evening everybody was well provisioned! Lots of great music too and plenty of jamming. We even had Karaoke for a couple of hours. For those that stayed-overnight, we got together in the morning for a great brunch with a full English style breakfast.

A very big thank you to Jan and Kevin for all their hard work and hospitality to make the day such an eventful and memorable Coffee Day.

Our gracious hosts, Jan and Kevin Johnston, entertaining us with some foot-tapping rollicking good rock and roll music. Jan on her Korg Pa1X and Kevin on his acoustic guitar.

Club Night 5th February 2013

What a great start to the Club's 2013 schedule! A near full house enjoyed a great variety of music from both the Club's Clavinova piano and Technics GA3 organ together with two members' keyboards brought in for the evening. It was great to have a flurry of new members too. Having a good attendance certainly makes all the hard work of the Committee to stage these events worthwhile.

First half saw Dennis Lyons debut at the Club on his Korg keyboard and PA gear to boot. Dennis played the arrival music and then a performance during the official programme. Colin Crann entertained us on the Clavinova (love those Alley Cat meows!) and followed by Yvonne Moller on her Korg keyboard. To finish the first half, Peter Littlejohn stood-in for an indisposed member. Peter did a great job on the Clavinova with only a couple of hours warning he was playing!

The second half of the evening was taken up by our special guest artist, Doug Farr. Doug has been a member of the Club, off and on, for over 30 years and it is great to have Doug come and play for us given his vast experience with his beloved electronic organs. Doug certainly wound the Technics GA3 up and made it sound the quality instrument that it is.

As always, a big thank you to the Committee for organising the evening so well and a special thank you to our rotor door staff, John and Pauline Beales. We certainly kept them busy with the large attendance, visitors and early annual subscriptions to account for.

Dennis Lyons played the arrival music for us on his Korg Pa500 and then played for us as one of the featured artists. This was Dennis's debut at the Club so well done Dennis!                  Colin Crann played the Clavinova for us.

Yvonne Moller played her Korg Pa1X for us      Peter Littlejohn stood in at the last minute for an indisposed member. Very nice too - thank you Peter.

Our guest artist, Doug Farr, played our Technics GA3 beautifully for us. It is great to hear the gorgeous, lush tones of our electronic organ when played by a master keyboardist.        Another view of Doug Farr playing in conceert for us on our Technics GA3.

President, Gordon Sutherland, thanking Doug for a great concert.
