Entertaining the Prescott Club

On the last Wednesday of each month, members of The North Shore Organ and Keyboard Club give a pre-luncheon Concert for the Prescott Club (part of Age Concern North Shore) at St Joseph's Church Hall in Takapuna. This month Diane Lyons (vocals and keyboard) and Gordon Sutherland (keyboard) had the pleasure of entertaining the members.

The audience certainly enjoyed the sing-alongs that Diane played and aided by her 'Roadie', Dennis Lyons. To provide variety, Gordon Sutherland played orchestral ballads. Lunch looked very tempting too thanks to the volunteer kitchen staff for Age Concern. As always it was a sheer delight to play to such lovely people.

The North Shore Organ and Keyb0oard Club Events Manager, Peter Brophy, organizes the Community Programme for the Club and the Age Concern’s Prescott Club is part of the schedule.

Coffee Day at our Club Rooms on Sunday, 21st July 2013

Coffee Day this month was at our Club Rooms at the Takapuna Bowling Club. A smaller group of members than usual held an enjoyable afternoon with good music, good conversation and plenty of Coffee and Tea flowing. A big thank you to Delyse Whorwood, Diane Lyons, Dennis Lyons and Peter Littlejohn for running the Day. With a smaller number of players than usual, there was plenty of time to indulge by using our fabulous, top-of-the range Clavinova CVP-509.

Entertaining members of St Annes Club for the Blind

A day of celebration and sadness. Celebrating over 40 years for St Annes Club for the Blind. Sadness as waning membership means this was the last session for the Club. For the last 24 years, members of the North Shore Organ and Keyboard Club have provided musical entertainment for the weekly meetings. Most kudos must go to former President of the NSOKC,  George Watt, who has been the kingpin for this period of time. During that period other musical contributors have been: Tony Vinton; Jim Nicholson; Peter Brophy; Len Hancy; and others including the current NSOKC President, Gordon Sutherland who played on this last Party Day with Len Hancy, Peter Brophy and George Watt.

One of the last pieces played this day was, "Time To Say Goodbye" (Con Te Partiro). On behalf of the NSOKC, we wish the members of the Blind Club good health and happiness for the future.

Mayor Wood was Patron to both St Annes Club for the Blind and the North Shore Organ and Keyboard Club at various times.
