Club Night 4th September 2012

Some Club Nights are special and this one was 'top-draw'. A very gratifying large turn-out of members and visitors were treated to a feast of wonderful music by our members in the first half and then our very special Guest Artist, Ron Stanwell, President of the Tauranga Organ and Keyboard Society. Ron came up special from Tauranga to give the concert for us. This was the first time he has played for our Club and it was worth the 34 year wait! Ron brought his Yamaha Tyros 3 keyboard and showed his mastery of the keyboard built-up over 60+ years of playing both in NZ and UK. Ron has given permission for a few video clips to be linked on our site to YouTube [dot] com so re-live part of the magic of the evening by playing the links below (when edited and incorporated) or if you couldn't make the evening well here is some consolatory music. It was a great pleasure to honour our retiring Secretary, Colleen Kerr, with a presentation and bouquet of flowers for her dedication over many years to the Club. Colleen will remain on the Committee we are pleased to advise. Peter Littlejohn has kindly agreed to be our acting-Secretary.

Ron's 60+ years of experience as a professional musician both in NZ and UK showed. Ron played his Yamaha Tyros 3 magnificently - great song choice, effective use of styles, and wonderful sound arrangements, not to mention his wonderful prowess on the keys! Ron played 11 pieces for us of a mixed genre and then gave us an impromptu and rousing encore.  Club President, Gordon Sutherland, making a presentation to our wonderful Guest Artist, Ron Stanwell after his magnificent Concert for us.
